ABOUT

So…why edit comedy?

Working across a range of genres has led me to one conclusion:

Everyone needs to laugh.

Now more than ever.

At some point, all the psych wards will be filled.

Then what?

There’s something that happens to an Editor when the dailies start rolling in. It’s tough to adequately put into words, but let’s imagine an electrical current. It begins in the center of your spine and moves up and down. Sifting through take by take, as the performance elevates the script into a world of its own.

That!

That is what I am always in search of in the cut.

My responsibility as a comedy editor is to provide a release valve from the pressure of the world. Editing is where I contribute to that task. Pulling all of the combined efforts together and refining that into something we can all be proud of.

If nothing else, think of the psych wards.

How do we get started story-wise? Let’s think of the script as a drawing you passionately want to make a sculpture of. Direction and performance create a fine piece of marble. I will take those elements and carve out a shoulder. Before I go any further, we will analyze that shoulder. Is it the same shoulder from your drawing? Are we on the right path? Yes? Alright! I am going to focus on revealing the image from within the marble. We will analyze that progress together as often or as little as you want.
